Buying make-up is not just simply that anymore. Just look at how Giorgio Armani Beauty’s travelling beauty pop-up store is upping the game. First, they get a red gorilla to greet you at the entrance — yes, that one that Fiona Xie is perched next to (main pic). This gentle giant is actually a replica of the Uri, a resin gorilla that sits in Giorgio Armani’s Milan abode. Unfortch, Fiona not included. But here’s what else you can do at the pop-up.
Get trigger-happy with larger-than-life make-up products.
Take a leaf out of Instagram star Drea Chong’s books, and pose at the Lip Maestro photobooth, right next to giant lippies and mega balloon pouts. No Botox needed. Then get down to business and book private make-up consultations by Face Designers (that’s what they call their make-up consultants) and try the brand’s sought-after cushions and lippies. Purchase any foundation and receive a limited edition tote bag, or shop the Lip Magnet #504 lipstick that’s only available at the pop-up. For an even more personal touch, get your new make-up loot engraved here as well.
Till Nov 7, Mon-Sat, 10.30am to 9.30pm, Sun 11am to 8.30pm. Outside Tangs at Tangs Plaza, 310 Orchard Rd.
The Great Wonderscape
Orchard Road has gotten a huge dose of whimsy with Beauty Emporium’s pop-up. We’re talking swinging in a giant peach can, hanging out at larger-than-life takeaway coffee cups, getting chakra and aura readings, and revelling in daily deals from Strip, Browhaus, Beauty Emporium, We Need A Hero, Two Lips and Tiong Bahru Bakery. More pix and info over here.
Till Nov 7, at Ion Orchard Basement 4 Atrium. Open daily 11am to 9pm.
Who wants to kill some zombies in a car park in Orchard Road? Trot over to a pop-up like no other: An escape room-cum-laser tag battle with the undead. The premise? There’s a virus outbreak, no thanks to a rogue lab experiment, and lab workers are turning into lab…zombies. Your mission is to form a team of four to find the antidote by way of overcoming obstacles, and slaying zombies in a laser tag showdown and solving puzzles in an escape room. Each game lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, and the pop-up can accommodate up to 300 players a day.
The calm before the storm
Till Nov 4. Grange Road Car Park (next to 313@Somerset). Open daily from 5pm to 11pm. Individual tix from $30 each; a team pass is $120 for four pax. Register on-site. Children under the age of 13 have to be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older. More info at www.zombieattack.sg.
Okay, so the inaugural Leica Playground pop-up will not feature silhouetted photographers. But here's what we know so far. This cool pop-up will let amateurs and professional shutterbugs discover hipster-cool cameras in the equally hipster-cool surrounds at Wheeler’s Yard. Besides shimmying around in the Boomerang and gif photobooths, you’ll get to take part in photography workshops, chill at the Leica Lounge, sipping on G&Ts from the Ki No Bi gin bar.
