Glass Heart (Netflix, July 31)

Based on Wakagi Mio’s bestselling novel, this eight-part drama stars Yu Miyazaki as a college student and aspiring drummer who’s kicked out of her own band — only to be recruited by a legendary musician (Rurouni Kenshin’s Takeru Satoh) for his new act. The series features original songs by Yojiro Noda, frontman of J-rock band Radwimps.

Chief of War (Apple TV+, Aug 1)

Jason Momoa stars in and produces this epic historical drama about a Hawaiian war chief who embarks on a brutal campaign to unite the warring islands — and protect from colonisation. The predominantly Polynesian ensemble includes Temuera Morris and Cliff Curtis.

Final Destination: Bloodlines (HBO Max, Aug 1)

Death is back — and out for revenge on those who disrupted his plans. Turns out, there was a reason he chose his victims in the first five movies. Featuring Tony Todd’s final appearance as William Bludworth — the enigmatic coroner who understands Death’s design — before his passing in November. His final monologue is nothing short of heartbreaking.
