Mark three decades of the Kidney Dialysis Foundation with this musical extravaganza about a deliveryman and his encounter with five people whose lives are affected by kidney disease. Performers include Joanna Dong, Sherman Zhuo, Cavin Soh, Kym Ng, Zoe Tay, Nick Neo, and many more. Between the songs are real-life testimonies shared by KDF beneficiaries.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look (Netflix, Aug 28)

We’re less than three months away from the long overdue time-suck (D-day: Nov 19!) — and here’s a first look at the gaming world’s answer to The Purge: engage and indulge in all sorts of lawlessness and bad behaviour with impunity. I’m really psyched but the fact that this is only available as a digital download bums me out (RIP, physical copy!). F*** you, Rockstar. I love you, Rockstar. Oh man, I’m soooo conflicted. Help!

Mousetrap (Netflix, Aug 28)

This 10-part psychological thriller stars Ryu Jun-yeol (Reply 1988) as a reclusive novelist whose identity has been stolen by a hacker who goes by The Rat. To get his life back, he has to make nice with both a loan shark (Hyper Knife’s Sul Kyung-gu) and a cop (Prison Playbook’s Lee Kyoo-hyung). Okay, deep breaths. Based on the webtoon Field Mouse.

The Whisper Man (Netflix, Aug 28)

The Russo Brothers — aka the Avengers: Doomsday directors — produced this thriller adapted from the 2019 bestselling novel by Alex North. Adam Scott plays a widowed writer whose eight-year-old son has been kidnapped by a serial killer called The Whisper Man. Here’s the thing: the perp has been behind bars for years. Who’s this new Whisper Man? A disciple, or did the cops catch the wrong guy in the first place? Robert De Niro co-stars as the retired detective who once worked on the case — and the writer’s estranged father.

The Producer (HBO Max, Aug 28)

HBO’s second original Taiwanese drama, following All Fired Up!, is set in the Mandopop scene and stars 9m88 as a production assistant for an award-winning producer (Light the Night’s Yo Yang). The 12-part series also features Edward Chen, Pets Tseng (no relations to this writer… well, not that I’m aware of), Rhydian Vaughn, Nadow Lin, and Ricky Hsiao, with a special appearance by Emil Chau.
