National Day Rally 2026 (Mediacorp TV, radio & digital platforms, Aug 23)

Yes, it’s that time of the year again. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will deliver his National Day Rally speech at the Institute of Technical Education College Central in Ang Mo Kio. What initiatives and master plans has he laid out for Singaporeans? Let me guess — there’s going to be something about the need to AI-proof our future. Let’s play a drinking game — every time AI is mentioned, drink up! PM Wong will speak in Malay at 6.45pm, followed by Mandarin, and English at 8pm. It will also be livestreamed on PM Wong's YouTube channel and the PMO YouTube channel. 

Lanterns (HBO Max, Aug 17)

Okay, Supergirl tanked. Perhaps this will keep morale up for the Warner Bros. (still Discovery?) staff and stockholders — a superhero drama about intergalactic peacekeepers called the Green Lantern Corps. Their weapon of choice: will-powered rings. Kyle Chandler plays a veteran Lantern who teams up with a rookie (Rebel Ridge’s Aaron Pierre) to look into a murder case in Nebraska — of all places on Earth. Nathan Fillion reprises his role as fellow Green Lantern Guy Gardner, traffic-stopping bowl cut and all, who first appeared in Superman.  

Take a Hike! (Netflix, Aug 18)

This reality show sees four celebs — singer Car, the Garden, Day6 drummer Dowoon, actor Lee Chae-min, and model and rapper Tarzzan — tackling Korea’s snow-capped peaks. The problem? They’re all hiking noobs. How far would they make it? Will they complete their journey?  And what if they don’t? Well, it makes for great TV too. Win-win!

S&X (Netflix, Aug 20)

Here’s a show you should watch with mummy and daddy. This 10-part Netflix Japanese Original series follows the adventures of a sex therapist (Kento Nakajima) as he searches for, ahem, penetrating insights into the mysteries of human sexuality as experienced by his various patients. Based on Kisei Tada’s manga S and X.
