He's out for vengeance... and lozenges

Trailer Watch: Robert Pattinson Debuts His Dark Knight Voice In The Batman

Robert Pattinson finally shows off his sexy raspy voice in The Batman, which just dropped its first trailer at the DC FanDome event.

Even though The Batman is still in production, writer-director Matt Reeves has enough footage from seven weeks of filming (before the COVID-19 pandemic-induced shut-down in March) to assemble a tantalising two-and-a-half-minute teaser.

In the preview, soundtracked by Nirvana’s ‘Something in the Way’, we see Jeffrey Wright’s Commission Gordon inspecting the handiwork of Riddler (Paul Dano) in a crime scene. It also introduces Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, Andy Serkis’ Alfred Pennyworthy (voiceover only), Colin Ferrell (unrecognisable as The Penguin), and Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego, Batman.

The teaser also gives fans a taste of how brutal Pattinson’s Batman can be. When he is confronted by a gang of thugs, one punk asks him, “Who the hell are you supposed to be?” Batman replies, in his signature low raspy voice, “I’m vengeance.” For anyone who doubted the casting of Pattinson as the Dark Knight, this scene will change their minds.

The Batman is expected to resume production next month and if everything goes according to plan (hey, COVID-19, I’m talking to you), it will open in cinemas in Oct 2021.
