Trailer Watch: Hercule Poirot (And His Moustache) Tackles Another Murder Mystery In Death On The Nile

Agatha Christie's Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is back on another case in Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, which just dropped its first trailer.

In the sequel to 2017’s Murder of the Orient Express, the master sleuth (Branagh pulling double shifts as actor and director) is onboard a luxurious river cruise on the Nile.

The central mystery revolves around Armie Hammer who dumps Emma Mackey (Sex Education) for Gal Gadot, setting off a chain of events that culminates in murder. This is where Poirot comes into the picture. So much for having a relaxing vacation.

“I am Hercule Poirot and I will deliver your killer,” says the ace investigator with the handlebar moustache in the trailer, set to Depeche Mode's 'Policy of Truth'.

So who got murdered? (Play the trailer a few times and you’ll figure out who the victim is.) The trailer doesn't say but it does have a list of suspects, which includes Letitia Wright, Annette Bening, Ali Fazal, Sophie Okonedo, Tom Bateman, Dawn French, Rose Leslie, Jennifer Saunders and Russell Brand.

Filmed at England’s Longcross Studios and on location in Egypt, Death on the Nile is Branagh’s second directorial feature to be released this year. The first, the YA-fantasy Artemis Fowl was supposed to open in cinemas in May but the COVID-19 pandemic forced Disney to premiere it on Disney+ instead.

Death on the Nile is based on Agatha Christie’s 1937 novel of the same name. It was previously made into a 1978 movie starring Peter Ustinov as Poirot, which won an Oscar for Best Costume Design. In 2004, it was remade in the TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot, with David Suchet as Poirot.

Death on the Nile opens in cinemas Oct 22.
