Trailer Watch: Emma Stone Is Stylishly Evil In 101 Dalmatians Prequel Cruella
Emma Stone stars as a young Cruella de Vil.
According to Cruella, which just dropped its first trailer, she "was born brilliant, born bad, and a little bit mad".
Instead of a straight-up live-action remake (the studio already did one 25 years ago starring Glenn Close), Disney is going for an origin story of Cruella de Vil with Emma Stone — channelling a little Harley Quinn — as the titular rogue-in-waiting.
Set against the backdrop of 1970s punk-rock London, Cruella dives into the rebellious early days of the iconic baddie when she goes by another name, Estella. Emma Thompson co-stars the Baroness, the head of a fashion house who takes Estella under her wing.
The movie, directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), also stars Mark Strong, Emily Beecham (Into the Badlands), and Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell).
Cruella opens in cinemas here on May 27.
