Two months after production wrapped, Christopher Nolan is ready to show some footage from Oppenheimer, the biopic of J Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist dubbed “the father of the atom bomb”.

Okay, It isn’t a lot of but enough to pique our interest: There’s a race-against-time thriller vibe to the movie (look, a countdown clock!), which stars frequent Nolan collaborator Cillian Murphy in the title role. The teaser features shots of fire and smoke between black-and-white shots of Murphy and ominous voice-overs (one nameless character says, “You gave the power to destroy themselves…meet the powerful man who ever lived”).

Oppenheimer is Nolan’s first movie with Universal Pictures; he was previously with Warner Bros for more than a decade where he made eight movies, including The Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar, and Dunkirk. Warners and Nolan’s relationship soured over the problematic release of Tenet amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oppenheimer also stars Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Michael Angarano and Kenneth Branagh. It opens in Singapore cinemas on July 20, 2023.
