Netflix Announces Production On Kingdom Special Episode Starring Jun Ji-Hyun

It will be a warm up for Season 3 (hopefully).

Netflix Announces Production On Kingdom Special Episode Starring Jun Ji-Hyun

When Season 2 of the Korean period zombie series Kingdom ended, it concluded with a 10-second tease of a mysterious character played by Jun Ji-Hyun (or Gianna Jun as she’s sometimes known as).

If the ending is anything to go on, that character — Jun’s first role since giving birth to her second child in 2018 — has a more substantial part in saga. At press time, there's no news of a third season. But Netflix has offered something else instead.

Bad-ass: Jun Ji-Hyun (aka Gianna Jun) will play the title character in the sidequel 'Kingdom: Ashin of the North'.

Turns out Jun’s character is named, Ashin, and Netflix has announced the production of a special episode, Kingdom: Ashin of the North, which will explain her backstory and how she fits into Crown Prince Lee Chang’s (Ju Ji-Joon) search for the source of the zombie infection.

As per Netflix, the ‘sidequel’ will also star Park Byung-Eun as the Royal Commandery Min Chi-Rok. The new story will detail what happened to Ashin in the past in the northern region and how the two characters’ fates intertwined.

Call of duty: Park Byung-Eun reprises the role of Min Chi-Rok, the head of the Royal Commandery.

Kingdom: Ashin of the North will be out on Netflix in 2021. Watch this space.
