Movie Review: Kumail Nanjiani And Dave Bautista Give Ridesharing A Bad Name (In A Funny Way) In Stuber

Imagine 'Collateral' remade as a comedy.

Stuber (M18)

Starring Kumail Nanjiani, Dave Bautista, Iko Uwais

Directed by Michael Dowse

Recovering from a lasik operation, LAPD dick Vic (tattooed teddy bear Dave Bautista) hires Kumail Nanjiani’s endearing lovelorn Uber driver Stu (hence the title) to help him track down a dope dealer (Wu Assassins' Iko Uwais — when will Hollywood learn to shoot a proper fight sequence with him?).

Between the stopovers and shoot-outs, the mismatched buddies would swap personal stories and insults. Ignore the featherweight plot: Stuber isn’t that kind of a movie that requires any heavy-lifting.

Just sit back with a tub of popcorn and large cup of low-calorie soda, and enjoy the gleefully mindless ride powered by the charming leads and their constant bickering.

Plus, it’s only 90 minutes long. For that reason alone, it receives an extra half-star. Bravo! (***1/2)
