Brigsby Bear Review: Mark Hamill Plays Kidnapper In Surreal Dramedy About Pop Culture Obsession
This is what happens if Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Bowfinger swapped DNA.
Brigsby Bear (NC16)
Starring Kyle Mooney, Mark Hamill, Greg Kinnear
Directed by Dave McCary
Saturday Night Live’s Kyle Mooney plays a man who grew up in a desert bunker, where he was locked up by a childless couple (Mark Hamill and Jane Adams). Once freed, the first thing he wants to know is the fate of his favourite sci-fi show about a bear named Brigsby.
He’s so obsessed with the show that he enlists a bunch of kooky folks (including Greg Kinnear and Andy Samberg) to make a lo-fi Brigsby movie. If Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Bowfinger had a baby and that baby was raised by Wes Anderson, she’d be Brigsby Bear. Exclusive at The Projector. (3.5/5 stars)
