Trailer Watch: Jason Statham, Wu Jing Fight Monster Sharks In The Meg 2

Jason Statham is swimming with sharks. Again.
Warner Bros has dropped the trailer for The Meg 2: The Trench — on the same day as The Little Mermaid’s LA premiere…what a coincidence! — the sequel to the 2018 creature-feature, where the services of Jason Statham’s deep-sea rescue diver are required again.
This time, he’s up against not one, not two, but three Megalodons that have escaped "an ancient eco-system untouched by man."
Li Bingbing, who plays a marine biologist in the first Meg, isn’t in the follow-up; she is replaced by Wolf Warrior’s Wu Jing aka China’s Rambo as a scientist. (The movie is co-produced by Chinese media investment group CMC.)
Three sharks, three times the Jaws-meets-Jurassic Park mayhem as Statham and Wu Jing try to outrun (out-swim) and stop the prehistoric monsters from attacking a tourist resort.
One scene, which is bound to be a crowd-pleaser, sees an influencer(?) devoured by the apex predator while live-streaming.
Directed by Ben Wheatley (Kill List), The Meg 2: The Trench also stars Cliff Curtis, Sienna Guillory, Shuya Sophia Cai and Sergio Peris-Mencheta.
Adapted from Steve Alten's 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, The Meg grossed US$530 million (S$703 mil) worldwide on a reported US$130 million budget.
Before Statham takes on the sharks, he will ride with Vin Diesel’s crew in Fast X, due May 18. The Meg 2: The Trench opens in cinemas in August. (And if you can't wait that long, there's The Black Demon, out on June 1.) Watch the trailer here:
