The 57th edition of the 'Chinese Oscars' will be handed out on Nov 21.
Nominations for the 57th Golden Horse Awards — dubbed the Chinese Oscars — were announced on Wednesday (Sept 30) in a live-streamed ceremony. The awards ceremony will be presented at the National Dr Sun Yet-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei on Nov 21.
Lee’s up against Liu Kuan-ting in My Missing Valentine — the rom-com with the most nominations of 11 — Austin Lin in I WeirDo, Mo Tzu-yi in Dear Tenant, and Lam Ka-tung in Hand Rolled Cigarette.
Elsewhere, Precious is the Night, a Taiwan-Singapore production, is up for Best Cinematography and Best Makeup & Costume Design. The movie stars model-photographer Chuando Tan, Tay Ping Hui, Xiang Yun and her daughter Chen Yixin.
The 1960s-set erotic thriller is directed by Wayne Peng, a Taiwanese documentarian/music promo auteur, and produced by Peng’s Singaporean wife Lim Sau Hoong, a veteran ad executive whose credits include Guinness’ ‘Word of Wisdom’ campaign featuring George Lam.
Another Singaporean nominated is Tan Boon Wah. The 44-year-old musician, whose full-time day job is a corporate real-estate lawyer, is one of three composers up for Best Original Song for the title theme song of the LGBTQ drama Your Name Engraved Herein.
Number 1 will open in cinemas Oct 22 while Precious is the Night is slated for Dec 10. Your Name Engraved Herein is reportedly picked up by Netflix.
Last year, Yeo Yann Yann won Best Actress in Anthony Chen's coming-of-age drama Wet Season while Yeo Siew Hua’s surreal missing-person thriller A Land Imagined won Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Film Score.
