Le Chiffre. Hannibal Lecter. Kaecilius. And now Mads Mikkelsen adds another villainous role to his CV — as Gellert Grindelwald, the big bad of the wizarding world.
And if there’s anyone who can stop him from raising hell, it’s Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore. Er, not exactly. Turns out he and Grindelwald made a deal in their youth not to fight each other. (Pfft, kids…) And in this where Eddie Redmayne’s Magizoologist Newt Scamander and his allies come into the picture, as glimpsed in the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
And whatever the secrets the title is referring to, Newt and Co. will find them in Hogwarts (“Three points to Hufflepuff!”)
The third chapter in the prequel series to the Harry Potter movies also stars Katherine Waterson, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and Jessica Williams, with Harry Potter veteran David Yates directing.
Mads Mikkelsen took over the Grindelwald role from Johnny Depp who played the character in the first two movies. Depp was asked by Warner Bros to exit the franchise after he lost his libel trial against The Sun that alleged he was a “wife-beater”.
