Ever the method actor, Jared Leto has undergone yet another dramatic transformation, this time for Ridley Scott’s upcoming true-crime drama House of Gucci, which just dropped its first trailer.
House of Gucci tells the story behind the assassination of fashion magnate Guccio Gucci’s grandson Maurizio (Adam Driver), with Lady Gaga — in her first major acting role since A Star is Born — as Patrizia Reggiani, Maurizio’s ex-wife, who was tried and convicted of plotting Maurizio’s murder in 1995 after he dumped her for a young woman.
The movie — based on Sara G Forden’s book House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed — also stars Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek and Jack Huston.
Of the all Oscar-winning and -nominated actors featured in the trailer, Leto received the most attention: As Maurizio’s cousin, the Suicide Squad actor, buried under tons of prosthetics, looks totally unrecognisable, as in Colin Farrell-as-The Penguin in The Batman kind of unrecognisable. He looks like a cross between Jeffrey Tambor and Rade Serbedzija.
House of Gucci is one of two Ridley Scott movies coming out this year. The Last Duel, the medieval period drama The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer, will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September; before opening in Singapore on Oct 14.
House of Gucci will hit the big screens in the US on Nov 24; it'll be released here on Jan 20, 2022.
