Netflix has released a bunch of photos from the upcoming fourth season of The Crown on Tuesday (Sept 29), including a closer look at Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana, played by Gillian Anderson and Emma Corrin, respectively.

The other images show Olivia Colman's Queen Elizabeth, Tobias Menzies' Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter's Princess Margaret, Josh O’ Connor’s Prince Charles, and Emerald Fennell’s Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince Charles’ former flame.

According to a press release, Season 4 of The Crown — premiering Nov 15 — will begin in the late 1970s, where Queen Elizabeth (Colman) and her family find themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (O'Connor), who is still unmarried at 30.

That storyline will introduce of the Lady Diana Spencer, who later became Princess Diana (Corrin) when she married Charles. Another season highlight: the clash between the Queen and the female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Anderson), after Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth.

If you think Corrin doesn't look a bit like Princess Diana, you're not wrong. In fact, the 24-year-old British actress herself will agree with you.

"My mum has been told that she looks like Diana," says Corrin in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "She often has been mistaken for her throughout her life, which is a really weird connection. But I have never had that. I get young Jodie Foster."

The fourth season of the British royal drama finished filming at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Season 5 — to be set in the 1990s — will be filmed next year and not air until 2022. Creator Peter Morgan had wanted to end the Emmy-winning show with Season 5, saying it was “the perfect time and place to stop.”

But, In July, he announced that the story will carry on into a sixth and final season. He told The Hollywood Reporter then, “As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons."

The cast will change again between the show's fourth and fifth seasons, with Imelda Staunton stepping in as Queen Elizabeth, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip. Additionally, Tenet’s Elizabeth Debicki will take over as Princess Diana in seasons five and six.
