Welcome back to Hogwarts!

HBO Max has shared the first image via Instagram from its upcoming Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts reunion special, which is premiering on Jan 1 on HBO Go.

The picture shows stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermonie Granger) chatting — and observing safe-disancing protocols — in the Gryffindor common room.

The retrospective special will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the eight-movie series that began with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (or Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, in some territories), which came out in November 2001. In a statement released last month, the programme — which was recorded at the Warner Bros Studio Tour London — “will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations”.

The line-up includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis and Evanna Lynch. (Some of them are teased in a trailer released early this week).

Pretty much anyone who’d appeared in the movies will show up. Well, except the folks handling catering (maybe). Them, and author JK Rowling who’s the persona non grata of the Wizarding World because of her
anti-trans comments, which have been condemned by the main cast. Yeap, it’s going to be one awkward reunion — how would the actors react when Rowling’s name pops up?

You can catch all eight Harry Potter movies on HBO Go. Subscribe to HBO Go online or via the app via (App Store or Play Store) for as low as S$9.99 per month. HBO Go is also accessible via Singtel, StarHub and meWATCH. It’s also available on Android TV, Apple TV, LG TV and Samsung Smart TV.
