Derek star Cheryl Chitty is happy that the second season of Mediacorp’s serial killer show was nominated for Best Short-form Drama at the inaugural ContentAsia Awards on Friday (Aug 28) — even though she "had no clue" that they were in the running in the first place.

On Instagram, Cheryl, who plays Winnie Low, the psychologist assigned to Desmond Tan’s incarcerated psycho killer, wrote, “So I had no clue that Derek II was nominated for Best Short Form Drama Series at the inaugural Content Asia Awards! Anyway we didn't win, but it's still pretty cool. Congrats all winners and nominees! Thanks for organizing."

Derek II lost out to the Viddsee series Soul Food. WarnerMedia channels won big at the ContentAsia Awards which was streamed live on Facebook.

HBO Asia’s Food Lore, the Asian cuisine-themed anthology executive produced by Eric Khoo took home Best Asian Drama for a Regional/International Market while Erik Matti, the director of the Philippines-set episode ‘Food Lore: Island of Dreams’ picked up Best Director of a Scripted TV Programme.

Another HBO series, the gritty HDB-estate-set drama Invisible Stories (aka the anti-Singapore Social) was named Best Drama Series/Telefilm Made for a Local Asian Market. Cartoon Network’s Monster Beach received the Best Animated Kids TV Programme.

The ContentAsia Awards are owned and operated by ContentAsia, a 14-year-old information platform curated to offer insights into Asia’s content environment. The Awards are judged by industry peers with hands-on knowledge and experience of the creative and production process.
