Celebs Pick Their Favourite Terminator Movies (And There Is Only One Movie To Rule Them All)

Does anyone remember 'Terminator Salvation'?

This year marks the 35th anniversary of James Cameron’s The Terminator, the classic 1984 sci-fi thriller in which Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a cyborg assassin.

That movie concerns the fate of humanity in the post-apocalyptic future where machines rule the planet. To eradicate the resistance, the supercomputers courier the titular Terminator — an infiltration unit that’s part man, part machine — to the past to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) the woman whose unborn son John Connor will be mankind’s last hope.

Unbeknownst to the metallic tyrants, the rebels, too, send a protector back in time to thwart the Terminator’s mission.

And the AI oppressors will put a hit on the Connors (and whoever gets in their way of total domination) again and again in four sequels, a TV series, comic books, video games, and even a theme park attraction.

With the fifth sequel, Terminator: Dark Fate, opening this week, we ask a few celebs about their favourite Terminator movies, and for some reason, they all single out 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day as their No. 1 choice.

It’s almost as if 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (that’s the one with the female Terminator), 2009’s Terminator: Salvation (that’s the one with Christian Bale as John Connor), 2015’s Terminator: Genisys (that’s the one with Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor), and The Sarah Connor Chronicles (that’s the 2007-8 TV series with Lena Headey as Sarah Connor) had been erased from existence.

It's an obvious choice: Judgment Day has killer special effects (the liquid metal T-1000) , the mind-blowing stunts (the bike and truck chase in the canal) and quotable quotes ("Hasta la vista, baby!") up the wazoo. The other movies simply tried to do their version of Judgment Day. (But I think Salvation deserves some credit for trying to make a Terminator movie without Schwarzenegger.)

And if you've only give a hoot about the Judgment Day, then Dark Fate, which sees Hamilton reprising her iconic role as Sarah Connor, is a must-see: It picks up where Judgment Day left off, ignoring the storylines in the other spin-offs, none of which involved Cameron.

But on Dark Fate, Cameron is back calling the shots as producer and co-writer; he left the directing duties to Tim Miller (Deadpool) because he’s too busy making the Avatar sequels

“[Dark Fate] is a continuation of the story from Terminator 1 and Terminator 2,” said Cameron in 2017. “And we’re pretending the other films were a bad dream. Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multi-verse.” So, will Dark Fate become everyone's new favourite Terminator movie? We'll see.

Meanwhile, let’s hear the celebs reminisce about their favourite Terminator moments…
