Bong Joon-Ho's Parasite Celebrates Cannes Premiere Anniversary With Short Video

'Parasite' made its world premieres at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2019.

This coming Thursday (May 21) marks the first year anniversary of Parasite’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where Bong Joon-Ho’s clash-of-the-classes dark comedy took home the Palme d’Or.

To celebrate the milestone, Neon, Parasite’s US distributor, released a five-minute video called Parasite: A Year in Cinema. It contains footage of the film’s winning streak on the awards circuit — from the Golden Globes to the Screen Actors Guild to the Spirit Awards — intercut with memorable quotes from Bong (including his famous “one-inch subtitles” speech at the Globes).

The reel ends with shots at the Oscars where Parasite made history by becoming the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture (much to the chagrin of President Trump), followed by the hopeful words, “We miss all of you. Til we drink together again.”

Parasite earned US$255 million (S$364 mill) worldwide; in Singapore, it’s the third-highest South Korean film, with S$1.13 million, trailing Train to Busan’s S$5.35 million and The Battleship Island’s S$1.5 million.
