A Land Imagined Didn’t Make The Best Int’l Feature Film Oscar Shortlist
Bong Joon-Ho’s ‘Parasite’ is the only Asian film shortlisted.
It looks like Singapore’s Oscar dreams are dashed.
Yeo Siew Hua’s A Land Imagined didn’t make it to the Oscars’ International Feature Film (formerly known as Foreign Language Film) shortlist, which was announced yesterday (Dec 16).
Of the 91 films eligible in the category, only 10 made it to the shortlist, including hot favourites, South Korea’s Parasite by Bong Joon-Ho and Spain’s Pain and Glory by Pedro Almodóvar.

The next round of voting, which takes place from Jan 2-7, will decide the final five nominees. The Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan 13, the ceremony will be held on Feb 9 (Feb 10, SGT).
A Land Imagined, starring Peter Yu as an insomniac cop looking for a missing Chinese labourer, won the Golden Leopard at Locarno Film Festival and Best Asian Film at the Singapore International Film Festival. It recently bagged Best Original Screenplay and Original Film Score at the Golden Horse Awards.
