If A Quiet Place, John Krasinski’s 2018 post-apocalyptic thriller set in a world overrun by hyper-sound sensitive monsters, made you terrified of eating popcorn in the cinema, then prepare to be go through the ordeal again with the sequel.
A Quiet Place Part II, which just dropped its first trailer, picks up shortly after the events in the first movie, with Evelyn Abbott (Emily) and her three children — including a newborn infant — facing new terrors, both monsters and humans, outside of their farmhouse.
In the first movie, the Abbots found a way to neutralise the predators. It looks like they are going to spread the word to the other survivors played by franchise newbies Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou. Are they friends or foes?
The follow-up, again directed by Krasinski (he also starred in the original but his character didn’t make it to see the end credits), will look at how the rest of the world has been reshaped by sound-sensitive pestilence. Expect plenty of low-volume thrills.
Will silence be just as golden and scary the second time around? (We’re curious to see if Krasinski can top that nail-in-the-floorboard sequence.) We hope so. For those who like to talk during movies, A Quiet Place Part II isn't for you.
A Quiet Place Part II opens in cinemas Mar 19.
