Superheroes Tear Up Tokyo In Manga-Based 'Inuyashiki'

A loser salaryman is reborn as a superhero.

Inuyashiki (PG13)

Starring Noritake Kinashi, Takeru Satoh

Directed by Shinsuke Sato

Here’s a rarity: a movie about a geriatric superhero. After a close encounter with aliens, the eponymous downtrodden salaryman (Noritake Kinsasi) is reborn as a bio-robotic mutant. With great power comes great responsibility: Inuyashiki uses his gifts to help people in need. But he isn’t the only super-freak in town.

A sociopathic high school outcast (Takeru Satoh) with similar abilities is terrorising downtown Tokyo; he can magically kill through TV screens and smartphones, using just his finger gun. The mass destruction that follows when the two men meet in this manga-inspired fantasy is thrilling, if a little familiar. (** ½)
