'Nails' Is A Not-Too-Bad Horror Set In An Old Hospital

Always make sure you have medical insurance.

Nails (PG13)

Starring Shauna Macdonald, Leah McNamara

Directed by Dennis Bartok

A hit-and-run victim (The Descent’s Shauna Macdonald) is admitted into a decrepit hospital (think Old Changi Hospital) — because that’s all her medical insurance can afford — where shoddy amenities and manpower shortage are the least of her concerns.

Turns out she’s also being stalked by a ghost hiding in her closet. And because she’s hooked to a breathing machine, she has a hard time convincing people — including her hubby, and the janitor-cum-nurse (remember, manpower shortage) — that the threat is real.

Nails is generally a satisfying fright-fest with a creepy Nosferatu-meets-Slenderman apparition, even if the climactic bedlam doesn’t make much sense. (***)
