Movie Review: Stephen King's 'Gerald's Game' Will Make Couples Think Twice About Their Weekend Getaway

What if '127 Hours' were set on a bed?

Gerald’s Game (R21)

Starring Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Henry Thomas

Directed by Michael Flanagan

An excellent Carla Gugino spends most of her screen-time cuffed to a bed frame in a remote lake house in this slow-burning psychological thriller.

Her predicament is the result of a kinky role-playing fantasy — devised by her domineering husband (Bruce Greenwood) — gone awry. Oh, it gets worse: a hungry feral dog is in the same room with her.

Gerald’s Game, an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1992 novel, is like 127 Hours without the boulder, but the outcome is the same: to free herself, the captive must to resort to extreme — really extreme — measures. However, she must first get past her personal demons. Now streaming on Netflix. (***)
