Men In Black: International (PG13)

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Liam Neeson

Directed by F Gary Gray

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, last seen as Thor and Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reteam as mismatched agents — he’s the Sterling Archer-esque veteran H, she the eager rookie M — working for the titular extraterrestrials-policing bureau. The London-set reboot sees them going up against a pair of breakdancing nasties (Laurent and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois, aka the Les Twins) bent on procuring a WMD, or something like that. As charming and stylishly attired as Hemsworth and Thompson are, their partnership here is less magical: they’re trapped in a mechanical adventure that’s short on awe, weirdness and, strangely, excitement. With Liam Neeson phoning it in as the MIB boss; Rebecca Ferguson wasted as a four-armed arms dealer; and Kumail Nanjiani voicing a wisecracking, scene-jacking Lilliputian sidekick. (**1/2)
