Movie Review: ‘Fabricated City’ Is An Entertaining But Overstuffed Tech Thriller

Ji Chang-wook is an online gaming addict caught up in an intriguing conspiracy.

Fabricated City (NC16)

Starring Ji Chang-wook, Shim Eun-kyung, Oh Jung-se

Directed by Park Kwang-hyun

Empress Ki’s Ji Chang-wook stars as an ex-taekwondo champ-turned-online game junkie framed for rape and murder by a James Bond villain-in-training.

To clear his name (the motive behind the elaborate set-up is pretty intriguing), the falsely accused teams up with a gang of nerdy misfits who know a lot about computer hacking, drone-building and surveillance hardware.

And yes, he’ll put his taekwondo and online gaming skills to good use too.

It’s an entertaining, if exhausting, mess of a tech thriller that opens with a Michael Bay-inspired shoot-out and ends with an overlong Fast & Furious-ish chase sequence. (* * ½)
