Matt Damon has reportedly joined the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder.

The 50-year-old actor has arrived in Sydney, Australia where he will quarantine for two weeks before production begins on the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also confirmed the casting, saying, “Hollywood superstar Matt Damon joining our homegrown talent to film such a major movie in NSW is a big win creating thousands of jobs for locals.”

In a statement to local media, Damon said: “I’m so excited that my family and I will be able to call Australia home for the next few months.

“Australian film crews are world-renowned for their professionalism and are a joy to work with so the 14 days of quarantine will be well worth it.”

Damon will join a star-studded ensemble including Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Tessa Thompson, and Dave Bautista. (Yes, it’s also a Ford v Ferrari reunion, ish.)

Damon had a cameo role in Thor: Ragnarok as an actor who plays villain Loki in an Asgardian stage play. It’s not known if he would be reprising that character or a new one.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be directed by Taika Waititi, who will also be voicing the character Korg. The film will be released worldwide in May 2022.
