Korean Disaster Pic 'Pandora' Re-imagines The 2011 Fukushima Nuclear Meltdown

What happens when South Korea is hit by a nuclear disaster?

Pandora  (NC16)

Starring Jeong Jin-yeong, Kim Nam-gil

Directed by Park Jong-woo

This is a scary monster movie where the monster isn’t a scaly ogre, but a nuclear station on the fritz.

Pandora is basically a reimagining of the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant meltdown on the Korean peninsula. The heroes are the fearless power plant workers while the villains are the inept bureaucrats and bottom-line-caring corporations.

Warning: the last harrowing 10 minutes are tough to watch.   (* * *)
