Starring Keanu Reeves, Ana Ularu, Pasha D Lychnikoff
Directed by Matthew Ross
Keanu Reeves plays an American diamond trader in bed (figuratively) with nefarious Russian gangsters over some rare blue gems, a shady transaction that finds him in Siberia (filmed in Manitoba, Canada, actually) where he ends up in bed (literally) with a local café owner (Ana Ularu).
Reeves, being Reeves, is wooden, aloof, yet strangely beguiling as a married man (Molly Ringwald has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo as the estranged missus) having an existential crisis.
The icy drama suffers from one too: It isn’t sure what it wants to be. It has some sex, some action, but nothing really captivating. It just looks aimlessly cold. Very cold. (**)
