Imagine a movie where the Death Dealer crosses paths with the Day Walker. What beautiful cinematic chaos will these two characters — one is the warrior from the vampire-vs-werewolf saga Underworld, the other a Marvel vampire slayer who goes by Blade — create?

While the five-movie Underworld series has run its course (does anyone remember what the last one was called?), Kate Beckinsale is game to dust off her leather pants for another go as Selene — under certain conditions.

“I really wanted them to do an Underworld-Blade mashup. What a duo that would be,” said Beckinsale, 47, in an interview with Variety. “I would definitely do that, but I think they just wanted to reboot Blade as Blade so they didn’t go for it.”

In the unlikely case that Marvel changes its mind, Beckinsale is ready to spring into action as she still owns Selene’s black leather pants. “I know exactly where they are,” she said. “You never know who you want to impress.”

Meanwhile, the Marvel Cinematic Universe take on Blade with two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the title role has reportedly found its director.

According to Deadline, Marvel is closed to signing Bassam Tariq, the director of the Mogul Mowgli starring Riz Ahmed.

Stacy Osei-Kuffour (HBO’s Watchmen) is on board to pen the script with Marvel boss Kevin Feige producing. Marvel started meeting potential directors from March to June, and in the end, it was Bassam’s pitch that won the studio over.

Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, Blade first appeared in Tomb of Dracula No. 10 in 1973. In 1998, Wesley Snipes played the human-vampire hybrid in the movie adaptation, which spawned two sequels. In 2006, rapper Sticky Fingaz stepped into the role on the short-lived TV series.

You can catch Kate kicking ass and taking names in her latest actioner, Jolt, opening in Singapore cinemas on Friday (July 23).
