'Ju-On' Director's Latest 'Innocent Curse' Is Too Silly To Be Scary

Go watch 'Ju-on' instead.

Innocent Curse (PG13)

Starring Hideaki Takizawa, Daiki Arioka, Mugi Kadowaki

Directed by Takashi Shimizu

J-pop duo Tackey & Tsubasa’s Hideaki Takizawa plays a bogeyman — looking like a cross between a gothic Pied Piper, Willy Wonka and someone who raided Marilyn Manson’s wardrobe — who targets perpetrators of child abuse.

Takashi Shimizu is best known as the director of Ju-on (and its lame American reboot), and his latest is a stark reminder that his best works are behind him — this is more likely to knock you out than make you stay up all night. It starts out creepy but becomes more silly than scary as it progresses.

The leaden pace is no help either. (**)
