Latest update: Sony has pushed back the movie's release to Jan 21, 2022.

Jared Leto’s Marvel Vampire Flick Morbius Postponed To October

It looks like COVID-19’s impact on Hollywood is spilling over into 2021. Sony Pictures has pushed back its Jared Leto-led vampire thriller Morbius by seven months. Instead of Mar 19, it will now premiere in the US on Oct 8.

The movie — based on the Marvel Comic character who becomes a vampire after attempting to cure himself a rare blood disease — was due to open in Singapore on Mar 18. Now the date is set for Oct 7.

This is the second time Morbius — which also stars Matt Smith, Jared Haris and Tyrese Gibson — has shifted its release; pre-COVID-19 crisis, it was originally slated to drop on July 31, 2020.

Morbius’ postponement came amid speculations that Hollywood studios are getting ready to play the delay game again due to the slow rollout of coronavirus vaccine and surging cases, especially in the key markets in New York and Los Angeles.

Meanwhile Sony’s other Marvel title, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, starring Tom Hardy, is slated to open on Jun 25. Will the studio delay it as well?
