Gina Carano Announces New Movie Project After The Mandalorian Firing

She's developing a movie with conservative news and opinion website The Daily Wire.

Two days after being fired from Lucasfilm over “abhorrent” social media posts, Gina Carano has found a new project.

On Friday (Feb 12), Carano, 38, revealed a new movie project with The Daily Wire, a news and opinion website founded by conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro.

“Thank you to The Daily Wire and Ben Shapiro for helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true,” Carano wrote on Instagram. “I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

Shapiro also tweeted, “Hollywood cancelled Gina Carano for being conservative. That’s bullshit. So we’re fighting back. Become a DW member today with promo code GINA for 25% off, and join the cultural resistance.”

On Wednesday, Carano was fired from The Mandalorian — where she played mercenary Cara Dune for two seasons — after the MMA champ-turned-actress shared several controversial posts on social media on Tuesday.

One of her posts likened the treatment of conservatives in the US to Jews in Nazi Germany, while another post made light of mask-wearing mandates amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also drawn flak for sharing misinformation about voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano’s talent agency UTA has also dropped her as a client.
