Fireworks, Should We See It From The Side Or The Bottom? (PG)

Starring the voices of Suzu Hirose, Masaki Suda, Mamoru Miyano|

Directed by Akiyuki Shinbo and Nobuyuki Takeuchi

If you like the body-switching, time-jumping romance Your Name, you’d probably take a shine to this enchanting anime remake of a beloved 49-minute 1993 TV film. The story follows an unhappy high school girl Nazuna (Suzu Hirose) planning to run away with adorkable classmate Norimichi (Masaki Suda) on the night of a local summer fireworks display. Things don’t go according to plan, but, thankfully, Norimichi has a magical orb that can manipulate time. It’s hard to keep up sometimes, especially towards the end, because you’re too busy being mesmerised by the striking 2D/3D visuals. In Japanese with English and Chinese subtitles. (***)
