It looks like Christian Bale may be heading to the gym to bulk up for another superhero role.
Variety reports that Bale “is in negotiations to join Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder. Because it's still in the negotiation phase, we thought we'd better run this piece of news ASAP before Bale changes his mind and goes off to make another indie film.
And if Bale does sign on the dotted line, the third Thor sequel would be his first big franchise movie since he hung up his cowl and cape as Batman in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
Thor: Love and Thunder, again directed by Taika Waititi, who did Thor: Ragnarok, is slated to open in Nov 5, 2021 in the US, with Chris Hemsworth back as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Natalie Portman as Thor’s ex, Jane Foster.
At this point, no one except Marvel knows what role Bale is up for. But this we do know: Foster will be wielding Thor’s Mjolnir and if the movie follows the comics, Foster’s nemesis is Cul Borson, Thor’s Uncle and King of Fear.
And if you’ve heard Bale losing his s*** on the Terminator Salvation set, then you know he can be formidable as Cul. And because Waititi is directing again, Cul is going to be fearful and funny. We hope. Now, who doesn't want to see Bale's funny side?
Waititi & Co. will start filming Love and Thunder in Australia later this year. Meanwhile, Waititi ‘s latest, the WWII coming-of-age dramedy, JoJo Rabbit, is now showing in cinemas.
Thor: Love and Thunder opens in Nov 2021.
