Can you believe that we’re just less than a month away from the opening of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? (The JJ Abrams-directed movie opens here Dec 19, a day before the US.)
As a reminder, Lucasfilm has released a series of character posters for the main cast as well as the new characters. If you’re a ‘Star Wars’ fan of a certain age, the posters resemble the vintage action figure packaging from back in the day, like this one below.
You’re familiar with Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) , Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), and Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo). And longtime fans, there’s Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian, the original owner of the Millennium Falcon.
Over in the newbies corner, there are scoundrel Zorii Bliss (Kerri Russell), freedom fighter Jannah (Naomi Ackie), and D-O, a droid that looks like a cross between a waffle-maker and a hair-dryer. Wait, where are the posters for Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux and Lupita Nyong'o‘s Maz Kanata?
In other Star Wars news, Lucasfilm will reportedly announce a new film and its director in January to replace the one that was supposed to be made by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss, who quit the project last month.
Right now, there are non-Skywalker Star Wars movies being developed by Rian Johnson and Marvel boss Kevin Feige. On the small screen, there’s The Mandalorian from Jon Favreau on Disney+. In the works: a Rogue One prequel starring Diego Luna, and an Obi-Wan Kenobi prequel with Ewan McGregor.
