'A Ghost Story' Is Not Scary But It Will Still Keep You At Night

Spoiler alert: Casey Affleck plays a ghost.

A Ghost Story (PG13)

Starring Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara

Directed by David Lowery

Casey Affleck plays a dead musician who’s trapped in limbo on Earth and continues to loiter around his old home as a bedsheet ghost.

He does nothing but watch the every move of his widow (Rooney Mara), including a five-minute (yes, five minutes) shot of her eating a pie, a sequence that’s both mundane and mesmerising.

A Ghost Story is boring, baffling and beguiling in equal measure. It isn’t scary, at least not in the traditional sense, but it’ll still keep you up at night with intriguing existential questions about life, death and the afterlife. Exclusive at The Projector. (***)
