Why Mayday’s Ashin wouldn’t perform a Jay Chou song at their concert

After bringing their tour to 55 cities around the globe, Taiwanese rock band Mayday are set to release their Mayday Life 3D concert film in theatres on May 24.

On May 15, members Ashin, Monster, Stone, Masa, and Guan You attended the film’s premiere in Taipei, with thousands of fans showing up in support. Director Muh Chen was also present to share more about the film, but they ended up talking about a lot of irrelevant yet amusing things.

When Muh, who was recently revealed to have been nominated for Best Music Video at this year’s Golden Melody Awards, was asked if he would rather win the award or see his concert film succeed at the box office, he confidently said, “Of course I’d prefer to see the film do well! It was a movie that was made for the fans.”

Many celebrities had recorded videos to congratulate Mayday on the release of their concert film, including Jay Chou. Ashin quipped that he would try his best not to perform a Jay song during a Mayday concert, explaining, “Jay’s songs have a stronger effect on the audience than our songs. Just look at the background of his video: it’s as if the Eiffel Tower were his home. That’s how amazing he is!” (In reality, Jay’s clip was filmed during his recent trip to Paris with his wife Hannah Quinlivan.)
