Wang Leehom to join eighth season of 'Sing! China' as a mentor

The singer revealed his reasons for doing so in an interview

After multiple invitations from the production crew of Chinese singing survival show Sing! China, Chinese-American singer Wang Leehom has finally accepted their request to be one of the mentors on the wildly popular show.

The news caught many by surprise, with fans pegging Leehom as one who is not interested in such programmes. In an interview that was released on Monday (April 1), the 42-year-old revealed his reasons for doing so.

“As a senior (in the music industry), I’m really excited to be able to meet so many people who can sing. I really wish to get to know everyone,” he said, revealing his excitement.

“My company also has plans in place to cultivate new talent,” Leehom continued, revealing another reason why he joined the show. The singer shared that he hopes to find new blood to invigorate the new generation.

The singer added that he hopes to be able to drive the promotional truck for Sing! China, to scout for new talent personally.

“As a mentor on the new season of Sing!China, what I’m looking forward to the most is the chance to discover and nurture newcomers to allow them to become the kings and queens of the singing world,” Leehom said.

He also expressed his desire for his team to eventually come up tops, sharing that they will “rely on their talent”.

Since its inception in 2012, Sing! China has cycled through a bevy of celebrity mentors, from Chinese singer Na Ying, to Taiwanese singers A-Mei, Chyi Chin, Harlem Yu and Jay Chou.
