Among the students at Wufang Singapore are kids, whom Vincent admitted he’s “always” liked. There’s one child, however, he likes a whole lot more – his son, Zander Ng.

“I think I might be a bit biased, but I really think he’s the cutest baby ever,” he gushed, letting out a huge laugh before continuing. “Everything he does is adorable, and when I’m not at home, I think of him all the time.”

Zander, who recently celebrated his 100th day with a big bash, is being cared for by both parents, as Vincent shared. His wife, Meiling, was previously in the shipping industry before she resigned in order to take care of Zander full-time.

“Honestly, if I had to quit and put everything down and just stay at home looking after Zander, I’d be totally up for it,” Vincent said with a grin. “But I’m very lucky to have a very understanding wife who is doing that, so I can focus on the things that I have on hand.”

So attached to his little one is Vincent that when he led the Singapore team to for the 2nd Taolu World Cup in Yangon, Myanmar for a week, he bemoaned that “every day felt like forever” as he counted down the days till he would be back home and next to his wife and son again.

His coping mechanism when he was there: frequent video calls back home in order to see his family, albeit through a phone screen.

Back in July last year, Vincent got married in a hush hush wedding, which some speculated was a shotgun wedding. All you keyboard warriors, Vincent saw your comments, but he shrugged, “They can say what they like, but if you do the math, Zander was born three months ago, so the reason why we got married in such a rush wasn’t that.”

The reason was because his father passed away in April and he had to hold the wedding ceremony within three months or wait for three years (according to the lunar calendar) to get hitched.

“I’ve met fortune tellers who have told me that I would have a baby when I was 42, but I never believed them. I actually kind of gave up and I thought that I would never get married, but as they say, man proposes but the heavens disposes (人算不如天算), and everything happened in a flash,” Vincent explained.

The hush-hush wedding ceremony wasn’t because he had something to hide, rather, they were in such a rush that they couldn’t invite everyone that they wanted to. Their original plan was to have a big banquet two years after getting hitched and invite their family and loved ones, but with the arrival of Zander, all that changed once again.

“When we were planning his 100th day bash, we decided to do both the wedding celebrations and the baby shower at the same time,” Vincent let on. “Both of us had a lot of people to invite, and since we had to throw a party anyway, we decided to combine the both of them and spent time inviting everyone that we wanted to invite to the wedding (…) Since we’ve already done it this time around, we won’t be doing the wedding banquet any longer.”

After meeting Meiling, the pair started dating very quickly, and he popped the big question six months into dating. “I originally wanted to wait until December to propose, but because of what happened with my dad, I thought about it and decided to do it quickly. After all, I knew that I was ready, and neither she nor I are getting younger,” he continued.

The rest, as they say, is history as they got hitched and decided to try for a baby. Lo and behold, this pair really have their lives in the fast lane as they got lucky after less than five months, and baby Zander has since joined the family.

Even before Zander was born, Vincent and Meiling spent many hours preparing for the arrival of their bundle of joy, as they not only went on a shopping spree in Perth after finding out their baby’s gender (“
(“The quality of baby clothes in Australia is really good!” he shared), but also took a childbirth preparation course with lactation and parentcraft consultant, Lilian Pong.

“I heard she previously worked with Ho Ching, and we spent the whole day with her learning how to care for a newborn, from changing nappies to bathing the baby – basically, everything that you need to know as new parents,” Vincent said. “Now, I’m the expert at doing all of that, and I really enjoy doing it for Zander.”

Given how much he enjoys parenthood, we asked if he’s already planning for baby number two, something Vincent had to pause to think about before replying. “Big or small family, I don’t think it matters as long as the family is happy and healthy. I wouldn’t say no to having a second child, but at the same time, I need to ask my wife’s opinion about this as well, and whatever her decision is, I’ll respect what she says.”
