Veteran Hongkong Actor Ai Wai And Wife Divorce After 18 Years Of Marriage

Once deemed as a model couple in Hongkong's showbiz scene, veteran actor Ai Wai and his wife of 18 years, Lisa Chan, have called it quits.

The 61-year-old actor confirmed in an interview that they officially separated in May and have sold their home in Sai Kung.

Ai Wai does not seem to be taking the divorce well

According to reports, Lisa was the one who initiated the divorce and Ai Wai does not seem to be taking it well. While he declined to reveal details of the divorce, he said he tried to save the marriage. But alas, the couple was unable to resolve their differences and decided to split amicably.
“A marriage is like two people dancing. If one person is out of step, we must try to accommodate him. But after trying and you're still not going at the same pace, you will inevitably stumble and the only solution is to end the dance,” he shared.
“Of course I am very sad but I have to push on. I still believe in love. This experience is very exceptional. Up till today there are still things that baffle me and I can only believe that it is destined.”

Ai Wai hinted that there was trouble in the marriage when he started sharing articles about separation and letting go on Facebook in February.
In March, he posted an article titled: “Fate is gone, love is diminishing, when you try to save it, the only thing left is regret”, with the caption: “One word to remember this day: regret.”

News of the divorce is particularly shocking as the long-time couple, who tied the knot in 2002, have been through their fair share of trials and tribulations, which you would assume would only strengthen their relationship.
Lisa, who works in the clothing industry, stood by Ai Wai’s side when the actor, who is best known for playing supporting roles on hit Hongkong dramas such as The Family Link and Hidden Faces, was jobless after leaving TVB in 2012 after 33 years to join HKTV.
The couple was dealt with another blow in 2014, when Lisa was diagnosed with a tumour in her uterus and had to undergo three surgeries to save her life. Then, Ai Wai, who had spent all his savings on her medical treatments, told the press: "I don't think it's difficult to stay by my wife's side, this is the right thing to do."
While the couple have no kids of their own, Ai Wai is dad to some 28 children whom he sponsors.
