Is that even Vanness Wu? Fans of the Taiwanese actor found themselves asking that very question on March 3, when they saw a video Vanness had posted on his Instagram Story.
Is that really Vanness?
In the clip, Vanness can be seen with his hand covering his forehead for a bit, before removing it to reveal that he had… shaved off his eyebrows?
Fans who had seen the video couldn’t help but take to their own social media accounts to discuss what they just saw.
Guess all their worry was in vain
As it turns out, the 41-year-old was merely trying out an AR effect filter, that removes and smooths over the eyebrows of the subject, making for a final product that we can only liken to a brow-zilian wax.
Vanness and his headline-making eyebrows in 'The Princess Weiyong'
This is not the first time Vanness’s eyebrows have made the news, though.
In 2016, Vanness acted in the period drama The Princess Weiyong, and for his role, the actor (or was it his make-up artiste?) decided to shape his brows in an, should we say, eyebrow-raising manner. And audiences didn't take kindly to his look.
His brows in the drama were mocked incessantly, with some netizens comparing him to the cartoon character, Crayon Shin Chan.
These are happy eyebrows, okay?
Vanness took the criticism in his stride, though, and even described his brows as “happy" when asked about it in an interview.
“I hope everyone can continue to pay attention to them, [my eyebrows] will definitely continue to work hard in the future,” he said.
