It’s finally here — the Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser trailer!
Unveiled on Friday’s Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, the two-minute long teaser shows a behind-the-head cameo from the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia; Rey (Daisy Ridley) practicing her lightsabre; Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) looking pissed off; Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) racing off to his X-Wing fighter with BB8; Finn (John Boyega) lying in some cryo-chamber; and the Millennium Falcon engaging in a dogfight.
It ends on an ominously note with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) saying, “I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end….”
Okay, everybody, this is where you go: Wooo…. Make no mistake, things are going to get dark.
The movie’s dark tones are also echoed in its teaser poster. Awash in red, the artwork features Rey holding her blue lightsabre while the faces of Luke Skywalker and his nephew and former disciple Kylo are superimposed to create one face. (Has Luke Skywalker crossed over to the dark side too?)
Elsewhere, during the Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy also confirms that Carrie Fisher will not be in [Episode IX], contrary to early announcements by Fisher’s brother, Todd, that his sister — who died last December at age 60 — will be in the ninth instalment.
Says Kennedy: “[Todd Fisher] was probably confused because we finished everything in [The Last Jedi], and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie. We’re so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer.”
If General Leia isn’t going to be in Episode IX, then what will become of her in The Last Jedi? We’ll find out when the movie opens here on Dec 14.
