Recently cast as the title character in Disney’s live-action remake of the 1998 animated film Mulan, you would've seen the Chinese starlet in movies such as A Chinese Fairy Tale and The Forbidden Kingdom. The casting announcement has been received positively in China and the West. Here are three things you need to know about Liu Yifei.
She beat almost 1,000 candidates for the part.
They include The Mermaid's Jelly Lin Yun. Liu's fluent English, thanks to her living in New York when she was 10, could've played a factor in helping her secure the coveted role.
She has a Korean boyfriend.
She has been an item with Song Seung-heon since 2015, after they co-starred in 2015 Chinese film The Third Way of Love.
She can sing and kick ass.
Liu is no stranger to kicking ass: She did in Forbidden Kingdom as well as the 2006 TV version of The Return of the Condor Heroes.
She has also released two albums, one in Chinese and the other, Japanese. And she speaks French too. Very multilingual.
