One can say that Rui En has been to hell and back in the past couple of years. Don’t believe us? Just click here, here and here. So it makes perfect sense that the actress will also be going to hell and back in her Ch 8 comeback drama, titled Ying Cuo Yang Cha. In the light-hearted supernatural drama, Rui En will play a resourceful but money-minded property agent who gets enlisted by the God of Death (played by Chen Hanwei) to be part of his team of grim reapers. Sounds interesting, right?
And it seems that this drama’s version of Hell will not the creepy, green-tinged Haw Par Villa version we’re used to seeing in past Ch 8 dramas like Strange Encounters and Heavenly Ghost Catcher. Instead it appears to be a modern day update of purgatory, judging from Rui En’s grim reaper costume, which seems to be a love child of The Matrix, Judge Dredd and those funky finger gloves Tom Cruise had on in Minority Report.
Joining Rui En in the drama is Shaun Chen, who plays her love interest and fellow soul catcher-in-crime, and Ann Kok, who plays the chio bu version of Granny Meng, aka the old lady who makes dead souls forget their past memories in the afterlife.
Ying Cuo Yang Cha is slated to start filming at the end of this month and will premiere on Thursday, Mar 7 2019, 9pm on Ch 8.
