Her onscreen romance with Andy Lau, who played Yang Guo in that drama, also made them one of TV ‘s most memorable screen couples — there was enough chemistry between them to set a chem lab on fire. And maybe it’s ’cos they weren’t really acting. Well, at least for Andy. The Heavenly King confessed in an interview many years later that he had harboured a major crush on the actress and that it was only after he found out that she was dating Chow Yun Fat, who’s his idol, that he decided not to act on his feelings. “I did tell her [how I felt],” said Andy. “And all she did was laugh after she heard it.”

Idy wasn’t just Chow Yun Fat’s girlfriend back in the day. She was also the movie legend's first love and they dated for five years, during which they were heralded as the showbiz’s golden couple, before breaking up in 1982. In 1984, Idy married casino tycoon Peter Chan, though that marriage lasted only eight years. By 1993, Idy had more or less retired from showbiz, only returning in 2007 to film TVB drama Catch Me Now opposite Damian Lau.

Wait, you must wondering why we’re suddenly talking about Idy. Well, the former actress made a rare public appearance in Hongkong yesterday (Oct 20) when she was a guest at a charity event, and of course the media’s attention was on her. Now 58, Idy, who’s single and has no kids, may not look like the Little Dragon Girl anymore but still looks every bit like a star. Though that’s not the most interesting about Idy these days. For the past eight years, Idy has been the ambassador for non-profit charity organisation Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power, which organised the event she attended. Her work with the charity has taken her around for China where she provides aid for children in need of help. According to Idy, she spent seven months last year travelling to six different Chinese cities for charity work. Idy also revealed she adopted a little girl who lost her family in the 2010 Yushu earthquake in China. The girl is now 18 and lives with Idy in Guangzhou. Little Dragon Girl? More like Woman With A Heart Of Gold.
