Chinese host Wang Han, best known for being a part of variety show Day Day Up, has come under fire after an investment firm he advertised for allegedly scammed people out of over 23bil yuan (S$4.5bil).

The app, iQianJin, engaged the 46-year-old to be its spokesperson in 2016. He shot numerous ads for the company, which promised 10% returns on investments. The minimum sum one was required to invest was RMB100 (S$19.70), which is said to be the reason for the app's popularity. Sounds too good to be true right? Well, it was.

Earlier this week, more than 30 people gathered to publicly shame the host, whom they say has avoided all responsibility after iQianJin absconded with their money. They also demanded that Wang Han fork out the money he earned from endorsing the app. Some 370,000 people are believed to have made investments with the app ever since Wang Han became its spokesperson, and that their investments account for a huge portion of the money that has allegedly gone missing.
