When Chinese actress Landy Li was first picked as the female lead in Chinese time-travel drama Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty, netizens quickly voiced their displeasure about the casting, criticising the actress for not being “pretty” enough. They also compared her to gorgeous Chinese actress Liu Shishi, who shot to fame after starring in Scarlet Heart, which popularised the time-travel drama genre back in 2011. The reason? Dreaming and Scarlet were produced by the same team.
