We’ve heard stories about terrible bosses, but Xu Mingchao, CEO of JC Universe Entertainment, is in a league of his own. Hugely popular Chinese girl group Rocket Girls, who are signed to JC Universe, made their showbiz debut in 2018 after its 11 members were voted in by viewers of reality show Produce 101.

But it seems like it wasn't all peaches and cream for the group the past two years, especially not for the group's leader Yamy (whose real name is Guo Ying). The 28-year-old wrote an emotional post on Weibo on July 21, detailing the emotional abuse she had endured.

“Since Produce 101, I’ve had netizens calling me ugly and old," she said. "As an artiste, I know that I can’t escape criticism (…) But the self-confidence that I painstakingly built up crumbled three months ago. Xu Mingchao, the boss whom I trusted and relied on the most asked all the staff to talk bad about me during a meeting. Have you been wearing a mask in front of me for the past two years? Sorry, but I've always been sincere."
